Introduction
Design for a Utopian future on the red planet! Mars is there, waiting to be reached! For centuries, man has been fascinated by the idea of space exploration. This quest to explore has taken man to unimagined heights. With the advancements in the field of astronomy and space research, the red planet has come into the limelight for its potential to be inhabited by humans.
The resources on Earth are depleting at an alarming rate and with the threats created by climate change, and global warming, the future of life on the planet doesn’t seem to be easy. Yet what remains constant is man’s urge to lead a comfortable life. This urge is pushing scientists and astronomers to find alternative planets for human habitation. And with the recent studies on Mars, human life on Mars might become a reality in the future.
Volume Zero Competition invited architects, designers, students, teachers, engineers, artists, visionaries, and everyone who believed in this unseen future and the possibility of a utopian future. The participants had to create a self-sustaining living space for the initial inhabitants, a group of five researchers, of the Red Planet.
The proposed designs were highly inventive and peaked innovation. The winning designs were critically detailed with all the necessary functions and systems required to make the lives of the inhabitants comfortable on the red planet.
Volume Zero thanks all the participating members and teams for their entries in the Marsception 2018 Architecture Competition!
